Prior to the move, I worked at senior management level in a number of industries in both the private and not-for-profit sectors, including property, culture, tourism and hospitality. When deciding on the next route to take, during retrospective of my career, I realised regardless of industry, all roles had common themes; I had always been hired to bring new perspectives, find solutions and action ways to move things forward all while balancing the differing needs of stakeholders and building consensus. Out of this experience, a business was born. Alongside the 20 + years of professional experience I brings, I am a member of the International Mediation Institute, a qualified Project Manager, a certified Conflict Management Coach and a Common Purpose Leadership graduate. Along with the countless families and individuals I have worked with throughout Ireland, I can list The Men’s Sheds Association, Donegal ETB, Irish Pharmacy Union, Food Coast Donegal, Welltold, TREOIR, Dublin Community Mediation, Donegal Tourism, The Blue Goat Ramelton, The Counter, Letterkenny, Persistence Brewing, and Rockhill House among my clients. I am a volunteer member of Dublin Community Mediation and through this organisation I am on a working group for a national pilot project in partnership with TREOIR. Through this project “Let’s Work it Out” we offered conflict coaching and mediation to parents who were experiencing conflict that gets in the way of them effectively sharing parenting. Sometimes managers and employees may want to learn new ways to prevent disputes from unnecessarily escalating, to improve their skills in conflict management, to develop stronger communication around difficult conversations as well as to deal with a specific problem. Conflict coaching can help by working on both managing conflict as well as solving. Using a variety of tools, we work one to one with a person who needs help with managing conflict in their daily role. We dissect the problems and look at things from different angles in a non-judgmental way. We identify assumptions, triggers, behaviours and impacts for everyone involved. We then work through potential solutions and road-test them for the real world. Conflict coaching is transformative for those taking part. They improve their skills and abilities around managing conflict in a way that is specific to them, benefiting both employer and themselves. They are invited to sit down with a mediator to talk, listen to each other and get a better understanding of what is really going on. What happened is often not the same as what is important to people. Together they will explore the problems and come up with their own solutions. By giving them this ownership, the solutions they agree on tend be lasting. As a mediator I facilitate the process and guide them through in a non-judgement, practical and respectful way. I help them to address and understand the past and look to the future. Having worked in a number of industries and bringing over 20 years of experience in strategic and operations management, I can help by focusing on a specific problem or inefficiency, viewing it from a different perspective. I can either do this working with teams or from the outside to put fresh eyes over something that is not working and make recommendations or put together a plan to resolve it. By working outside of a company but alongside the team I can bypass the time constraints, emotion and politics that can often hinder organisations in looking at problems objectively. Training groups means they are all “on the same page” and no one feels singled out Workshops and training days are tailored to you organisation with extensive pre-consultation to ensure that what your employees are going to learn is relevant and useful in their day to day roles. These workshops can also take on a practical slant where I work with a team to resolve a live conflict and facilitate them in agreeing on ways forward and devising new ways of working for the future.
